Howe: Difficult one for the referee

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe criticised referee Graham Salisbury's performance following the Cherries draw at Middlesbrough.

Despite awarding the Cherries two penalties inside the opening 12 minutes of the game, for two very obvious offences in the box, Howe was critical of Salisbury's performance during the rest of the game including his decision to not award Wes Thomas a third penalty during the second half.

Salisbury had no alternative but to point to the spot for the foul on Tokelo Rantie during the opening five minutes, while Frazer Richardson's handball was just as obvious.

However Howe felt Salisbury may have attempted to even the game up after giving the two decisions to the away side.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"The third one should have been given for a foul on Wes Thomas. My initial reaction was that it was a cast-iron penalty and I just felt, as the away team, we were never going to get three penalties.

"It is a difficult one for the referee. He had given two penalties and, whether it is human instinct, the temptation is that he has to try to even it up. The reality is that he doesn`t and just has to give what he sees. I did feel there was a lot of that when we didn`t get any decisions in the bits and pieces of the game."
