Jalal: It's going to be a battle
AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Shwan Jalal is ready for the battle over who will become the Cherries 'keeper next season.
Last season Darryl Flahavan lost his place in the side due to a shoulder injury and he was replaced by Shwan Jalal during the early part of last season.
However following the signing of former England international David James, Shwan Jalal dropped down the pecking order for a few months eventually displacing James before eventually losing the shirt again to then new signing Ryan Allsop.
Ahead of the new season, Allsop has been handed the number one squad number, with Jalal dropped down to number thirteen, but with Allsop missing the whole of pre-season through injury it has given Jalal and Flahavan the opportunity to impress.
Due to suffering a thumb injury, Jalal missed the early part of pre-season only making his first appearance last week against Poole Town where he played an hour.
Jalal then played the full 90 minutes against Woking on Saturday, before a brief six minute appearance against Real Madrid on Sunday.
With games coming up against Portsmouth, Dorchester and Bristol City this week Jalal is hoping for more time on the pitch.
Jalal told the Daily Echo...
"It's going to be a battle for the starting spot this season with Rocky (Allsop) and Flavs so I'm trying to get as many minutes under my belt before the season kicks off.
"I had a small problem with my thumb which has kept me out of a few friendlies but it is good to be back and I am looking forward to playing a few more games during pre-season to try to get my fitness up."
"It is hard to say (who will be number one). There are three of us all wanting that spot. The manager has rotated it during pre-season but, with Rocky's injury, it will be one of those things that may be left to the last minute.
