Cherries face FC Zurich

Cherries face FC Zurich

AFC Bournemouth face 12 times Swiss champions FC Zurich this evening in their first pre-season fixture of the season.

The Cherries have enjoyed a five day training camp in Switzerland this week, with the trip culminating in this evenings tie.

Zurich are one of the biggest clubs in Switzerland, winning the Swiss Super League 12 times, the last time coming in 2009, the Swiss Cup 7 times and reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup on two occasions.

Last season they finished sixth with their squad including international players such as Mario Gavranović, Josip Drmić, Yassine Chikhaoui, Avi Reikan, Davide Chiumiento and Amine Chermiti as well as a number of promising under 21's internationals.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told afcb.co.uk...

'...FC Zurich have got a really strong history behind them, have won many league titles and have played in Europe on a regular basis, so we are under no illusions.

"It`s one of the toughest pre-season games we could have got and we are privileged to play such a team and have the tie ups at boardroom level that have enabled this to happen.

"It`s really pleasing from my perspective that we start with what should be a competitive game."
