Francis: Championship will suit our football

AFC Bournemouth right back Simon Francis believes the Cherries can flourish in the Championship.

The Cherries won promotion to the second tier in English football for only the second time in the football clubs history last season, with Eddie Howe's squad emulating Harry Redknapp's 1987 side.

While there will be a step up in quality moving from League One to the Championship during the next campaign, Francis also believes that the style of football will also suite the Cherries.

Francis told

"Without a doubt we are looking at staying in the Championship but not just avoiding relegation. We will also be looking to compete against the big clubs in the division, There will be a lot of big clubs down here, we will have a lot of good away days and I think the Championship will definitely suit our football.

"We like to pass the ball around and it was tough at times in League One because we would be on not so great pitches and smaller grounds. This season we will be stepping up a league, playing at better grounds, playing at a lot of teams that have been in the Premier League and I think that will suit us.

"We will go there and do the best we can."

Dead right. I'm optimistic at the moment that we'll do well. I hope we're not hit with a massive reality check early on!
