Howe: Acid test will come when season starts

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes his squad have returned to training for pre season with the desire to make the step up.

The Cherries won automatic promotion from League One last season and are currently preparing for life in the second tier of English football for the first time in a generation.

The Championship season kicks off next month and before that, AFC Bournemouth have a full pre-season schedule to work through. Last week the players returned to training and worked through various fitness tests on the Kings Park training pitches. This week the squad are set to fly out for a five-day training camp in Switzerland and south Germany.

The first match of pre-season coming on Friday evening away to FC Zurich.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"...Their attitude, as always, has been exemplary so I have been pleased with our work early on. We will certainly ramp up the intensity as we go on."

"I have seen a mentality that the players know they have got to step up a level. They couldn`t come back the same players as they were last season.

"They had to come back better players and improve and I think I have seen that within them. The acid test will come when we start the season but they have certainly never let me down in terms of desire and quality of training...'
