Mitchell: People are viewing our club seriously

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell believes the recent capture of defender Elliott Ward shows the intent the club hold this season.

The Cherries are making the step up to the second tier in English football for the first time in a generation.

With the step up to the Championship, comes bigger clubs, bigger stadiums, bigger fan bases, bigger finances and overall a higher quality of football.

The Cherries have remained confident in the squad that earned promotion from League One last season, but Mitchell will also make attempts to strengthen the squad, when asked by management duo Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall.

Mitchell told afcb.co.uk...

"It is down to Eddie (Howe) and Jason (Tindall) to hone in on players they like and need. Then it`s up to us to try and find the revenue to fulfil their requirements, It`s not always easy but at this moment in time, as we know, we have a great squad anyway.

"That really makes it harder because there`s no point buying people for the sake of it. We have to buy people that are really going to improve us and that`s going to be hard.

"The signing of Elliott Ward shows our intent and how people are viewing our club now and looking at us seriously. Obviously Elliott is a great player so it`s great to have him at the club."
