Ritchie: We are all hungry

AFC Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie believes that the Cherries squad are hungry to prove themselves in the Championship next season.

Eddie Howe's AFC Bournemouth equalled the feat of Harry Redknapp's side when they won promotion to the second tier of English football for only the second time in the clubs history.

With promotion secured, the reality for the next campaign is to establish the club at that level.

Some of the squad already hold some experience in the Championship. Strikers Lewis Grabban, Brett Pitman and Wes Thomas, midfielders Josh McQuoid, Richard Hughes, Donal McDermott, Shaun MacDonald, Matt Ritchie, defenders Tommy Elphick, Steve Cook, Miles Addison and goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan all having had brief spells in the division before. While new signing Elliott Ward of course has huge Championship experience following spells with Norwich, Nottingham Forest, Preston, Doncaster and Coventry.

Ritchie told

"I think it will be a big step up in quality going into the Championship because, no disrespect to League One, the standards in the Championship are a lot higher, There are some big clubs in there. QPR and Reading have come down from the Premier League and they are going to be good outfits and hard to beat, but we are all hungry.

"We have a good squad and players that want to prove themselves at that level as well.

"Some players have maybe had sniffs at it and not really established themselves but hopefully we can go into the Championship and prove ourselves and establish ourselves as Championship players...'
