Howe: A really big step for us

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes the Cherries have been handed a really tough start to life in the Championship.

The Football League announced the new league fixtures on Wednesday, with newly promoted AFC Bournemouth kicking off the new campaign at Dean Court against familiar opposition in Charlton Athletic.

However the next two fixtures could have been against sides competing in the Premier League next season with Championship Play-Off finalists Watford and FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic.

But whilst Howe conceded it was a tough start to the new season, he also believes that the step up is one the Cherries squad can make.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"Our start is going to be really important to us, We have been given four really tough fixtures in August, coupled with the League Cup tie against Portsmouth.

"It is great to kick off with a home game and we have got to be looking to hit the ground running and try to continue the momentum from last season. Had things been different, both Watford and Wigan could have been in the Premier League next season so they are going to be formidable opponents.

"The Championship is an unforgiving division and we will need to be at our best in every game. It is a great division but a very competitive one as well. It is a really big step for us but, hopefully, one we will be able to bridge."
