Arter: Hughes experience will be invaluable

Centre-midfielder Harry Arter, has explained how important the role of Richard Hughes will be next season.

Having come out of retirement to join the club last summer, Hughes, the former Pompey man made a regular contribution to The Cherries run-in, regularly appearing off the bench to help close out the game efficiently, and team-mate Arter told afcb.co.uk how vital this was:

'When it comes to playing, he gives us a calmness which is really important. There were many games last season where we were a bit edgy in the last 10 or 15 minutes and he came on and made a difference. The gaffer knows what he can do and how important he is, and I think he will be even more so next season.People talk about the experience he brings but with the way he plays, he`s one of the best players we've got.'

So from being out the game 18 months ago, to playing in The Championship once more, Arter thinks Hughes is grateful of how his luck has fallen:

'18 months ago he was probably done with football. He wouldn`t have even dreamed of coming back to Bournemouth let alone being promoted and then being part of it the following season. He thought his playing days were over, so he`s definitely looking forward to it and definitely wants to play.He loves the game and you can see that in the way he tries to help the younger players.'
