Bournemouth gaffer, Eddie Howe, has spoken about to ease fears over the quiet summer of transfer activity at the club.
The club has yet to make its first summer signing, but with teams soon to be returning for pre-season training, The Cherries boss expects this soon to change, as he told afcb.co.uk:
'It`s been quiet on the transfer front. Obviously we haven`t made any signings and it`s been quite slow in the respect, so that`s been the only disappointment for us. I've said it before, I think we have a good squad but we would like to add a couple of players to us competitive in what is going to be a really tough division.But we've got to make sure the players we attract are the right ones and we don`t panic and dive into something which isn't right for us.'
Despite having ideally sorted out all his business before the players returned, Eddie understands that this cannot always be the case. He added whilst speaking to Daily Echo:
'One year, we were quite fortunate - when we got promotion from League Two to League One at this club - that we were able to bring in the players we wanted in good time for pre-season, so we could work with the squad. But I don't think it will be as easy as that this time. You can bring in a couple of players late who can really make a difference for you, so we will work on the players we want and see where it goes.'
With the club now spending sums never seen before as well though, the long-life Cherries supporter, knows that he needs to trim the squad as well as add quality because of the financial fair play rules that the club has to abide by:
'It is about trying to get the squad to an acceptable level and the right level for us, and re-adjust the wage bill because financial fair play does have a big bearing on us at the moment.'
Despite all this transfer inactivity, it's not stopped the lauded manager from working hard over the summer months though as he tidies up the final preparations towards his own pre-season schedule. he told afcb.co.uk:
'I`m looking forward to the pre-season training. It`s an enjoyable time of the season from my perspective because you get to work with the team and on the principles behind the way you want to play. It will also be good to see the players after a long break because we are a tight group.'
