Meades departs Dean Court

Meades departs Dean Court

AFC Bournemouth utility player Jon Meades has left the Cherries after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

The 21 year old who was released by Cardiff manager Malky Mackay at the end of the 2011/12 season featured twice during the Cherries 2012 pre-season while on trial, away to Havant & Waterlooville and at the Goldsands Stadium against Reading and his performances were enough to earn a two year contract to join Paul Groves squad on a permanent basis.

But while he had been signed to offer competition to left back Charlie Daniels, Meades went on to play for the AFC Bournemouth development squad in midfield and following a loan move to Wimbledon in November, this was the position that he impressed in.

Meades made 26 appearances for Wimbledon helping them to avoid relegation out of the football league, winning both AFC Wimbledon`s Young Player of the Year (voted for by the fans) and the Radio WDON Player of the Year accolade.

AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley had been hopeful that he could sign Meades on a permanent basis, but despite his early release from his contract, it would seem Meades has been offered a better deal elsewhere.

Ardley told the Hounslow Chronicle...

"If you have players who do well for you then they attract attention, Jon's one of them...'

'...I get on well with him, but he doesn't owe us anything after what he did for the club last year.

"He's been made an unbelievable offer which I expect him to take."

Following the announcement that Meades would be leaving AFC Bournemouth, manager Eddie Howe told

'Jon did very well during his loan spell with Wimbledon, We would love to be in a position to keep everybody but, unfortunately, we can`t.'

"We can`t carry too big a squad and we need players who are going to be able to step in and play in the Championship.

'We need to create room for potential new signings and the agreement with Jon was reached with that in mind."

The Daily Echo have reported that League Two side Oxford United are the favourites to sign him.
