Meades set for permanent Wimbledon switch?

Meades set for permanent Wimbledon switch?

AFC Bournemouth utility player Jonathan Meades could be set to join League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a permanent basis.

The 21 year old was released by Cardiff manager Malky Mackay at the end of the 2011/12 season.

Meades featured twice during the Cherries 2012 pre-season while on trial, away to Havant & Waterlooville and at the Goldsands Stadium against Reading and his performances were enough to earn a two year contract to join Paul Groves squad on a permanent basis.

But while he had been signed to offer competition to left back Charlie Daniels, Meades went on to play for the AFC Bournemouth development squad in midfield and following a loan move to Wimbledon in November, this was the position that he impressed in.

Meades made 26 appearances for Wimbledon helping them to avoid relegation out of the football league, winning both AFC Wimbledon`s Young Player of the Year (voted for by the fans) and the Radio WDON Player of the Year accolade.

AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley is now hopeful he can sign Meades on a permanent basis, telling the Hounslow Chronicle...

"Jon's done very well for us. I wouldn't have brought him in if I didn't rate him.

"But these things are never easy. It can take four, five or six weeks to get a player over the line."

After picking up his player of the season awards Meades also indicated that he would consider joining AFC Wimbledon over the summer as he told afcwimbledon.co.uk...

"...Bournemouth have just got promoted so it is likely that they will be bringing more new players in, I will have to decide what is best for me and my career and Wimbledon is a strong option. I am contracted to Bournemouth for another year and I will just have to speak to them about what is best for both parties going forward."

...I guess promotion was a gamechanger for some players like Meades,Sheringham,Fletcher, and maybe others like McDermott and Jalal?
