'Keepers offered new deals

AFC Bournemouth have offered new contracts to goalkeeping duo Darryl Flahavan and Benjamin Büchel.

34 year old Flahavan, was signed by former manager Lee Bradbury and has made 48 appearances for the club.

Flahavan missed the whole of last season after suffering a shoulder injury during a pre-season friendly, he returned in time to make two appearances in the Hampshire Senior Cup and is set to battle with Ryan Allsop and Shwan Jalal for the Cherries number one shirt.

Cherries development squad 'keeper Benjamin Büchel has already undergone an operation to fix his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), which he suffered in March playing on loan for Dorchester. He has begun his rehabilitation and is expected to be sidelined for around six to nine months.

The duo have both been offered 12 month contracts.

Flahavan told afcb.co.uk...

'I applied myself like I always do in training and whatever game I've got to play - I just do what I've done for 17 years.

'The way I apply myself is how I do it every day, and fortunately for me I was lucky enough that the manager saw that, so I am thoroughly delighted.'

Speaking about Büchel, AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe added...

'Benji was doing really well prior to his injury and is an excellent prospect. Unfortunately, he suffered a nasty injury while on loan to Dorchester.

"As a club, we wanted to show our support at a time when he needs it. It is a bad injury and he won`t be fit for six months so we are going to give him the best chance to recover fully from his injury and look to get him back training in January."

I can only imagine that Flap-haven had a clause in his favour triggering an additional year if promotion was gained, because he is pony.

...who knows maybe EH and JT see something in him and Jalal will be moved on?

Probably think its got something to do with the Championship experience he's had, might come in handy guiding Allsop through the fist few matches next season. Plus he's a good keeper to play in the cup mathces or for the reserve team.

Flahaven is a liability, bad move!

I think we need an experienced nos 1-Alsop looks a bit nervous even though he has had little to do and could learn under someone like Kieron Westwood-bit concerned we've released Charlie but offered new deals to Partington (how many more seasons can he "show promise") and especially Flahaven-I had him down for Havant & Waterlooville next season, not with us in the championship

I rate Flahavan so dunno what you lot are on about. He won player of the year at Southend & hasn't shrunk since. Stepped in during a tough season in which he's done the odd howler but nothing compared to Jalal's list. I like Jalal & I do think he's got a whole lot better since his back surgery but the way some fans have a dig at Flahavan I find to be bullying. He's our player so f'n back him. King Eddie gave the lad the contract so just deal with it.

BOO HOO! poor Flahaven! If he is not a big enough man to take a bit of stick then wow! Past triumphs do not mean he is any good now.
believe!
