Partington offered new contract

Partington offered new contract

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has offered Joe Partington a new two year contract with the club.

The Cherries youth team graduate made 18 appearances last season, mainly in the holding role in front of the back four under former manager Paul Groves.

He made five substitute appearances following the return of Howe to Dean Court in October, totalling 20 minutes of football and had been training to change his position from midfield to centre half, before he suffered a fractured right fibula in training.

An operation to fix the fracture, should limit the chances of complications but does extend his period on the sidelines beyond pre-season.

Howe told the afcb.co.uk...

"We have been working with Joe as a central defender for the past six months and he has made really good progress in that position, For how we play, we need centre-halves who can handle the ball and he can certainly do that.

"He is developing the defending side of his game all the time and has shown a great attitude to the work we have given him. We are hopeful that, in time, he can develop into a top-class centre-half.

Meanwhile development squad players Jordan Chiedozie, Josh Wakefield, Harrison Gilkes, Aristide Bassele and Dan Strugnell have all been offered short-term three month contracts.
