Mitchell: Working to continue our progress

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell insists that recent redundancies does not indicate a poor financial position for the club.

It is believed that around ten members of the non-playing staff at AFC Bournemouth were made redundant this week.

Mitchell insists that the departures are not an indicator of cost-cutting around the club, rather a re-structure of staff.

The most high profile casualty was Mick Cunningham who had worked for the club for many years as club photographer, programme editor, official website editor and media manager.

AFC Bournemouth Commercial executive Tom Jeffes also announced his departure on Monday.

Further redundancies followed on Wednesday when AFC Bournemouth Youth team manager Ross Embleton left the club alongside other members of the youth team set-up, whilst Sales and Marketing Executive Holly Maxwell announced on Twitter on Thursday that she had also left the club.

When asked by the Echo if 'streamlining' could affect the playing side of the club Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"We give Eddie (Howe) a budget and expect him to work within it. At the moment, I would say we are pretty much doing that.

"But if there is money to be saved on the pitch then we would look to save it. We know we have got a decent-sized squad and have got to work with that squad to get the best results.

"You can never account for injuries and various other things so, at this moment in time, we are relatively comfortable. We are working with Eddie to get it right and to continue our progress up the league...'
