Daniels and Elphick return to light training

AFC Bournemouth defensive duo Charlie Daniels and stand-in captain Tommy Elphick have both returned to light training.

Left back Charlie Daniels has rested his foot after a scan last month revealed that he had sustained a avulsion fracture to the base of his fifth metatarsal sustained against Wigan in January.

Hopefully a period of six weeks on the sidelines has prevented the need for an operation, which had been provisionally booked for the 27th February.

If he is now able to train pain free he can pick up his recovery, if not then surgery will rule him out for the remainder of the season as it will require twelve weeks to recover as it would require bone fragment to either be pinned or removed.

AFC Bournemouth stand-in captain Tommy Elphick didn't require an operation following the horror tackle at stadium:MK, but it was announced two weeks ago that he was likely to miss another four weeks with a knee injury.

Elphick`s initial scan following the vicious tackle from Lowe revealed just bone bruising, but after he returned to training and continued to suffer some discomfort, the Cherries asked for a second opinion and a second scan showed he had soft tissue damage.

He has now returned to light jogging and could return ahead of schedule.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"Charlie has had a period of rest and we are just beginning to see whether he can build back up now and whether he can tolerate work through his foot.

"The next few days are going to be crucial for Charlie. He is a big player for us and we would love to get him fit.

"Tommy is in a similar position. He started light jogging and running in a straight line. Hopefully, we can accelerate him quite quickly and he can be fit, hopefully, ahead of schedule.

"But at this moment in time, he is still some way off."
