Cook: I can be a leader

AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook is determined to show Cherries manager Eddie Howe that he can be a leader after being handed the captains armband.

With AFC Bournemouth defender Miles Addison out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury and stand-in captain Tommy Elphick also injured, the Cherries captaincy has fallen to centre back Steve Cook.

The Cherries defender who has played all across the back four at some stage this season, has now earned a settled spot at centre back alongside new loan signing Dan Seaborne.

With Brighton left back Marcos Painter joining the club on loan for the remainder of the season last week, the Cherries fielded a make shift defence at Preston, but Cook believes that the Cherries are up for the challenge of winning League One.

Cook told

"As a player, being handed the captaincy is the best thing that can happen, Hopefully I can give the gaffer some performances to show I want to do as well as I can for him.

"It`s a chance for me to step up and show that I can be a leader and get the team going, and it is a challenge I am looking forward to.

"We want to win the league so we have to rally around and focus on us winning games, and getting a winners medal at the end of the season."
