Howe: Defence is the bedrock of your success

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe wants to see an improvement in his defence following the defeat to Preston North End.

The Cherries have suffered somewhat of a defensive crisis in recent weeks with he loss of left back Charlie Daniels and centre back Tommy Elphick joining Cherries captain Miles Addison on the sidelines.

With Stephane Zubar on loan for the remainder of the season at League One side Bury, Howe has moved to bolster his options with the loan signings of Southampton's Dan Seaborne and Brighton's Marcos Painter.

With Elphick and Daniels expected to be out for a minimum of a couple of weeks, Howe will be looking for his new look defensive unit to recreate the performances of his previous back fives which have lost just two league games since mid-October.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"It has been difficult because we had a really settled back four and a back four that was performing very well.

"If ever there are positions in the team that you don`t really want to tinker with too much, it is in defence because that is the bedrock of your success.

"We had injuries to two key players but that is the game and that is what happens to every team. We have just got to make sure that we get that solid look back again."

...CLough always said build from the back, I do however think that we really do miss a solid and proper defensive tough midfield general in the Pulis,Shearer,Parkinson mould? Our promotion team under Harry included Pulis who was unspectacular but very tough.

^ I kinda agree... I think we had that with Bartley & now I think the closest we have to that in the team is Hughes but he don't play often enough.
