Pitman: We need to be on top of our game

AFC Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman believes that the Cherries will need to be at their best to beat local neighbours Portsmouth on Saturday.

Pompey travel to Dean Court 23rd in the League One table, without a win in seventeen and following eight successive defeats.

They have earned just three points since their last win against Shrewsbury Town on 20th October last year.

On that date they were 11th in the table with 18 points, whilst the Cherries were 18th in the division following two back to back victories following Eddie Howe's return from Burnley.

Pitman has compared Portsmouth's predicament to the Cherries own battle of survival, when they avoided relegation from the Football League following a seventeen point deduction and went on to win promotion the following season despite a sixteen month transfer embargo and being forced to play with a squad of just 14, including youth team players, injured players and twice retired assistant manager Jason Tindall.

Pitman told afcb.co.uk...

"You cannot write them off, It will be another tough game.

"We know from our time before here, that when you`re in administration, or close to the bottom of the league and you only have 13 or 14 players you become closer as a group, and obviously that helps build team spirit.

"I know they haven`t won for a while but like we have seen with results recently in this league anyone can beat anyone so we have to be right on top of our game..."

...be a very good idea then to be 'on top of our game' in all the remaining matches?????

I think you could field your under 12 girls team & still beat us. This is a very dificult time for us & we are choking on the humble pie but we will live to fight another day. We wish you all the best with your promotion bid.

...very kind mate....you guys have a much bigger battle than relegation and I wish you well down there at Fratton Park...having had the pain here a few years back...

Yep, we need the points but I take no pleasure in Pompeys situation - really hope that they can move forward soon.
