Howe: We will be cautious with Elphick

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says he will take a cautious approach to stand-in captain Tommy Elphick's leg injury.

With Stephane Zubar on loan to League One rivals Bury, Cherries captain Miles Addison still out injured, left back Charlie Daniels struggling with a foot problem and Elphick expected to miss the next two to three weeks following the horror challenge with Lowe at stadium:MK, Eddie Howe's defensive options are limited.

Southampton loanee Dan Seaborne and Steve Cook made up a brand new central defensive partnership following Elphick being replaced on Saturday, while new signing Matt Ritchie, who is better known as a right winger filled in at left back.

But despite the lack of options available, Howe has insisted that Elphick will not be rushed back into the side.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"The scan came back with good news. But, like with any injury, we will still be cautious until he is back fit with us. I think that is the right way to view it.

"Tommy is still in a bit of pain and there is a bit of swelling in the knee. The scan says he has come through clear but, until he is back fit, we won`t know..."

'...he has performed very well in the games and has been a very consistent performer. We have been delighted with Tommy and are certainly going to miss him...'
