Elphick: Hoping to be back quicker than expected

Elphick: Hoping to be back quicker than expected

AFC Bournemouth stand in captain Tommy Elphick has avoided serious injury following the horror tackle at stadium:mk.

Franchise player Ryan Lowe was shown an immediate red card for his over the top wreck-less challenge which was met with condemnation from both the Cherries and his own team.

A scan on Monday however thankfully revealed no serious damage, with Elphick left with severe bruising to the tibia and femur.

Elphick is expected to miss around two to three weeks.

Elphick told afcb.co.uk...

"I am obviously delighted, because it was a nasty tackle, I really thought I had done something serious.

"It is the same leg I injured before (ruptured achilles), so when there is a threat of injury from a tackle you are a little bit more worried that you can sustain complex damage, but thankfully I got away with it.

"I`m always optimistic and I`m a positive thinker so now I`ll be looking to get back a little bit quicker than expected."
