Howe: Ritchie showed a really good attitude

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe praised new signing Matt Ritchie for his performance in the unusual position of left back.

The Cherries £500,000 transfer window signing made a name for himself in Paulo Di Canio's Swindon Town side on the right wing, but with Charlie Daniels injured and Tommy Elphick being forced off with injury, Ritchie was called upon to slot in at left back leaving Dan Seaborne and Steve Cook to take the centre back roles.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased with Ritchie's debut performance despite admitting that he is a better winger.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

'...he did very well there, technically, going forward. I thought he did excellently and he showed a really good attitude.

"It was not really the debut I wanted to give him, playing in that position. His best position is wide but he did well.

"That was one of the reasons we brought him in - that he can play there. With Charlie out, he did really well for us."
