Howe: It is in Jalal's hands

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has said that the number one spot in the Cherries team is in Shwan Jalal's hands.

After a fifteen game unbeaten run in the league with former England international 'keeper David James in goal, Cherries manager Eddie Howe opted to replace James following the 3-1 away defeat to Walsall last weekend.

James dropped out of the matchday squad for Tuesday nights away trip to Hartlepool, with Shwan Jalal re-instated in goal after impressing in the FA Cup and new signing Ryan Allsop was named on the bench.

Howe believes that Jalal's performances will improve with regular football and he hopes Jalal takes his chance to impress.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"Distribution-wise, he was very good with his feet, his choice of kicking and where he kicked, and he made a couple of valuable saves for us.

"I don`t think we will see him at his very best until he gets a run but I was pleased with him on Tuesday..."

"...He played on Tuesday, we won and he performed well. Now, it is in his hands and, hopefully, he can take his chance."

...prone to too many mistakes IMO...how many of us worry when a shot has been hit towards him? I saw him at Portsmouth and Carlise where he made two simple errors, didn't see the one he conceded at Hartlepool but I just have a nagging feeling about Shwan which is in conflict with my desire for him to succeed with us...

So far since Eddie has been back I've agreed with pretty much everything he's done. However, Jalal instead of James... Think he might have this one wrong.

I disagree with this. James should be number 1 simple as.

I like Jalal, but James' record, experience and influence on the pitch will certainly be missed. Should be number one. he's not past it, yet.

Jalal - when on form his distribution is great, however I prefer a keeper who stops the opposition from scoring rather than often assisting them. I would rather have James or Flahavan (if fit) or probably Allsop .

This could cost us points. It is only three leagues games ago when we were on the point of a club record of clean sheets with James in goal. So why change - yes he was at fault for one of the Walsall goals but it wasnt a howler. Then as soon as Jalal is back we get his trademark howler at hartlepool. Eddie wasnt hear at the start of the season but Jalal was terrible and that is why we had to get James. Change back to James straight away.
