Cherries set to sign Cornick

AFC Bournemouth have agreed a 18 month deal with 17 year old Harry Cornick.

The youngster impressed whilst on trial at Dean Court in November, after making a name for himself for Christchurch in the Wessex League.

He made one brief appearance for a Cherries XI against Bristol Rovers, coming on as a right winger and scoring within minutes of stepping foot on to the pitch.

Premier League sides Stoke City, Southampton, Fulham and Reading were also reportedly interested in Cornick, but Eddie Howe has managed to sign the young prospect.

Cornick will continue this season with Christchurch and complete his A-levels at Poole Grammar School, training with the squad part-time before joining the team at the end of pre-season.

As Cornick was not under contract with Christchurch, the Wessex League club will not receive a transfer fee from the Cherries, however it is expected that Christchurch will host a pre-season friendly between the clubs later this year.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"He is a very young player who hasn`t had any coaching, as such, at academy or professional level.

"I think he has got raw attributes. He has got pace, good feet and an eye for goal - which are good qualities to have.

"It is very much a case of a year for Harry to see if he can make a career in the game. We are not trying to build him up at this stage.
