Tweet sprouts whole new challenge for Fletch

Cherries striker Steve Fletcher has been involved in professional football for the past 20 years but never before has he faced a challenge quite like the one he is taking on this Christmas.

Famous for posting photos of his dinners on social network Twitter, Fletcher has taken his love of food to a new level by vowing to eat as many cooked Brussels sprouts in ten minutes as he can.

The stunt is being carried out in aid of the Make a Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening conditions.

A far cry from any challenge he has previously faced on the football pitch, Fletch is already in intense preparation ahead of the big event.

"The whole idea came about after I posted a photo of my roast dinner on Twitter, and someone replied commenting on the lack of Brussels sprouts on my plate," Fletch said.

"So from my wife and daughters joking about how many I could eat if I wanted to, the whole idea has expanded, and it has come about that I am now going to attempt to eat as many as I can in ten minutes live on the radio.

"I think that will be the last time my wife mocks me though as she has now increased her workload by having to buy and prepare more sprouts for me ahead of the event!"

The veteran forward, who is also the record appearance holder at the club, is being realistic ahead of his challenge though.

"I wanted to have a go at the world record of 31 in one minute, but it`s a tall order and we thought that going for as many as possible in 10 minutes would be more fun and more achievable.

"I am not sure how my stomach will take it, but I am looking forward to it and I hope to raise as much money for the charity as possible."

Full coverage of the event will be broadcast live on the Hot Drive Home with Sean Burns live on Hot Radio 102.8FM or www.hot1028.com on Wednesday 19th December.
