AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher believes the Cherries should strive to emulate what Wigan Athletic have achieved over the past decade.
11 years ago Wigan and AFC Bournemouth were both in the same division and had been for a number of years.
But in 2003 and 2005, Wigan achieved two promotions and reached the Premier League where they have remained ever since, achieving a record 10th place in 2006.
The two sides will meet again at the newly named DW Stadium in January following the FA Cup third round draw and Fletch is looking forward to returning.
Fletch told the Daily Echo...
'...It doesn`t seem five minutes since I was playing there for Bournemouth in the league and it`s marvellous what Wigan have achieved since then...'
'...Home and away, I have some good memories of playing Wigan. Obviously, it`s different now they are in the Premier League and they have real quality in their side.
"But we have to strive to achieve what they have and I`m sure that is what the chairman (Eddie Mitchell) and (co-owner) Maxim Demin want us to do."
