Thomas: A fresh start

AFC Bournemouth striker Wesley Thomas believes that he has a fresh start at Dean Court following his loan recall from Portsmouth.

The Cherries striker was sent out on loan to League One neighbours Pompey by former manager Paul Groves.

Thomas had struggled to find his goalscoring touch under Groves, finding the net just once during his tenure in charge.

He scored a stunning goal against Stevenage during Groves' first game in temporary charge following Lee Bradbury's departure, but that proved to be his only goal in 22 appearances.

During his 28 days at Fratton Park the 25 year old enjoyed a goal ratio of a goal every other game (3 goals in 6 league appearances) and Eddie Howe was keen to see him return to Dean Court two weeks ago to assess him.

Unfortunately during his first training session he felt his hamstring and Saturday's game against Doncaster was the first time Howe had Thomas available to him, with the striker making a 20 minute cameo at the end of the match.

Thomas told the Daily Echo...

'...When a manager believes in you, you go out with confidence and that is what happened with me at Portsmouth.

"I didn`t think I was getting the backing when Paul Groves was in charge and that is why I don`t think the supporters saw the best performances from me.

"It is a fresh start now so, hopefully, I will be in the team again and scoring goals."

Groves has really had a bit of a slagging off over the last few days! Players not mincing their words about someone who is, at the end of the day, still one of their colleagues...

Ignoring the fact that Thomas couldn't score under Bradbury after the first 3 months then

Sorry wes i thought you had chances under Groves i watched the 1st game against pompey and other games you have played in,i think your work rate is always superb but your finishing and luck let you down in front of goal i just hope your finishing has improved under eddie and i think you could be good for us if it has.

if you're put out on the pitch what more backing do you need? That sounds like a lack of self criticism to be honest. I think he's a great player but you cant blame a manager for picking you but then you failing to get the goals! More likely he can blame you!
