Moss: Ball causes havoc

AFC Bournemouth goalkeeping coach Neil Moss is hopeful he can get the Cherries 'keepers better prepared for this seasons new FA Cup ball.

In previous seasons both Darryl Flahavan and Shwan Jalal have struggled with the lighter Umbro balls used in the FA Cup.

In November 2011, Neil Moss said that the new ball was getting beyond a joke now, whilst in August 2010, Shwan Jalal said the ball was taking the art out of goalkeeping.

For this weekends FA Cup First Round, teams will use the new Umbro Neo 2 Pro which made its debut in last seasons FA Cup Final between Liverpool and Chelsea.

According to Umbro 'a lot of thought and innovation' goes into the design of a football so that it 'does exactly what it should do.'

The new ball supposedly has a faster, truer flight of the ball, while a high density foam lining helps the ball to keep its shape and maintain a natural level of bounce.

Before AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper coach Neil Moss had used the Umbro ball in training, the former Cherries 'keeper said he hoped to be well prepared this season.

Moss told the Daily Echo...

"I am writing down all sorts of different sessions to try to hit the ball in as many different ways as I can, with all sorts of dip, spin, high and low and all the rest of it, just to see if we can try to get to grips with it.

"I have said for the past two seasons that I am not a big fan of not just those balls, but of changing the footballs all the time.

"I think that it causes havoc but it is one of those things we have got to deal with. I will certainly be putting on some drills for the keepers to try to get them as used to an erratic ball as we possibly can."
