Tierney: All credit to Totton

AFC Bournemouth youth team goalkeeper Ed Tierney apologised for his penalty shoot-out miss as the Cherries were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup.

Former AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves and assistant Shaun Brooks returned to the Goldsands Stadium touchline for the first time since their dismissal from first team affairs earlier this month.

AFC Bournemouth youth team manager Ross Embleton was serving the first of a two match touchline ban after he was banned and fined £150 after an altercation with a match official against Southend.

The Cherries initially took the lead against Southern League Premier Division side AFC Totton when Sam Matthews' opened the scoring. But Totton found the equaliser through Nathan Hurst.

The remainder of the match and extra time remained goalless with the visitors thanking their 'keeper Matt Fredericks for keeping them in the game.

After 10 successful penalties from both sides, Totton made the game 11-10 before the final penalty fell to AFC Bournemouth 'keeper Ed Tierney whose effort went over the bar.

Tierney later wrote on Twitter...

Apologise to anyone I have let down tonight. My actions were not out of disrespect or arrogance. All credit to Totton and best of luck.

I get knocked down, but I get up again #howtolive #noregrets

Bring back Joe Roach, eased out by Brookes, and we might start producing talented players again!

I cannot believe the last 2 posts anyone who saw the game i think would agree if bmth had taken their chances they would have achieved double figures but they did not and totton hung in there and got a bit of luck with the pens ,so good luck to them in the next round also bmth had the most outstanding player on the park in josh carmichael who on this showing needs to be playing at a higher level,if bmth dont want him in the 1st team squadthen i am sure a lot of the scouts watching will be recommending him to their boss,s
