Pugh: We will just see what happens

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is hopeful that the Cherries can agree a deal to extend Marc Pugh's contract with the club.

Marc Pugh has been caught up in a protracted contract situation for the past year at Dean Court.

The Cherries have been keen to offer Pugh a long term contract, whilst the player has been very open about wanting to leave his options open. During the summer Pugh rejected a previous three year deal offered to him by chairman Eddie Mitchell.

The Cherries top goalscorer's current deal expires at the end of the season and if a new deal can not be signed, then he will be able to leave the Goldsands Stadium on a free transfer.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"...I have had a brief conversation with him and his representative but it will be something that, hopefully, we can sort out. Hopefully, Marc is enjoying his time.

"If he can see that we are progressing as a football club and trying to get to where he wants to play, then hopefully he will stick with us. Ever since we first saw him, we immediately really liked him, his characteristics and the way he plays the game. He scored two really good goals on Saturday and looked a real threat throughout."

When asked about the situation Pugh added...

"I am ambitious and I have always said I want to try to play in the Championship. If it is with Bournemouth, then great. We will just see what happens."

Why don't we offer a one year deal with a release clause, at least then we'd get some money if he decides to go and it won't be a long off putting contract to other clubs. although not ideal for us or him it gives him an option and us some cash if a club comes in this summer

No one jumped in for him when he didn't sign last time.Great player when in the mood, can also be a waste of space.Needs to be consistant. Offer him a year if he don't like it we are sooo rich we'll buy someone else.
