Howe: Bowles has taken a different direction

AFC Bournemouth development squad player Gary Bowles has opted to leave the Cherries.

Bowles joined the Cherries in August 2011 from Dorchester Town and then spent the first few months of the season on loan with his former side before returning to Dean Court.

Without featuring for the Cherries first team, Bowles is only known to many supporters by his recent off the field problems.

In February 2012 Bowles was convicted of attacking his former girlfriend following a trial at South Somerset Magistrates.

The incident took place just weeks after he joined the club on 25th September 2011, Bowles denied the assault, while the court heard he 'grabbed his victim`s throat as she lay in bed, banged her head on a wall and then bit her on the arm'.

Bowles was given a 20-week suspended prison sentence, was also given 100 hours unpaid work in the community and had to pay the victim £400 compensation and £425 towards the costs of the trial. Bowles was also the subject of a three-year restraining order.

At the time AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell refused to state whether he would be disciplined by the club, telling the Daily Echo in February 'We have got a conduct book and we know how we are going to deal with it, but that is our business.'

Despite not featuring for the first team all season, former AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves offered Bowles a new one year contract in May 2012 and this season Bowles had featured for the Cherries development squad and played in the recent Hampshire Senior Cup win over Winchester City.

But the 23 year old has now decided to leave Dean Court.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo...

"Gary has decided that he doesn`t want to pursue a career in professional football at this moment in time so he has decided to go a different direction in life, which we fully respect and wish him well."

I have never cared less about an article. This guy was a total helmet. The only people who could be considered bigger idiots than "bowels" are the prats who signed him.
