Howe: No special favours

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe insists that there will be no 'special favours' for any of his thirty-plus squad.

Howe and assistant manager Jason Tindall returned to the Cherries from Championship side Burnley last week and are set to take charge of their first game of their second spell tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.

During the past week Howe and Tindall have been assessing the squad they inherited from former managers Paul Groves and Lee Bradbury.

Howe of course has already worked with a number of the current squad from his previous spell in charge at Dean Court between 2009 and 2011 with Shwan Jalal, Joe Partington, Marc Pugh, Harry Arter, Josh McQuoid, Stephen Purches, Mark Molesley, Jayden Stockley and Steve Fletcher all being part of the squad that Howe used to win promotion from League Two in 2010, while Richard Hughes is a former team mate of Howe's from his own playing days.

But Marc Pugh was the only survivor of those days in the Cherries win over Leyton Orient last Saturday, while Hughes limped off during the first half, as Howe watched on from the Energy Consulting box.

The remainder of that starting line-up was a mixture of Groves and Bradbury signings and Howe will give everyone a chance to impress as he looks to take the squad forward following his return to the south coast.

Howe told the Daily Echo...

"You build an opinion very quickly on a player. We would always give someone a chance and Jason Tindall and myself have always had the same opinion on that.

"You have to give people an opportunity to impress and we are going to do that with all the players here.

'...Players we managed previously will not get any special favours and neither will the new players. It will be based on who I think is best for the job."

Good to hear. It'll be interesting to see how similar (or indeed, dissimilar) the first 11 is to one of Groves's.

I would only change the captain to James as he will probably play every game for the rest of the season. I just hope we don't rotate things to often. I believe Howe needs to find a good base line & then gradually introduce new players when things aren't working out in certain areas. This is should be good to do till January so we clear out some of the waste & extras so we bring in some of the former lads.
