Rofe: Sad week for the club

AFC Bournemouth first team coach Dennis Rofe has said it's been a sad week watching on as Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks left the club.

The Cherries sacked managerial duo Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks on Wednesday after a third consecutive defeat on Tuesday night.

The defeat left AFC Bournemouth 20th in League One, with just one victory in all competitions this campaign and also holding the worst defensive record in the division with 20 goals conceded during the opening 10 games of the league season. Only Oxford and AFC Wimbledon hold worse defensive records in the top four divisions in English football so far this season.

Overall Paul Groves leaves Dean Court with a record of just 3 wins in 20 games (in all competitions), drawing 11 and losing 6, scoring 22, whilst conceding 29.

Rofe, who joined the club in the summer took the squad for training on Thursday and is set to continue on Friday and could take charge of the team away to Coventry on Saturday.

Rofe told the Daily Echo...

"It has been a sad week for the club. We are in a results-driven industry, which we are all aware of when we come into the game, but I would like to pay tribute to the work Paul (Groves) and Shaun (Brooks) did.

"They had a difficult job from the start. Results have not been what we would have wanted and we realise that. But their job was made more difficult by one or two outside factors. They worked tirelessly for the club and I would like to thank them.

"In the early part of the season, there was a lot of hype and talk about the financial input. I think people need to park that a little. I think everybody was of the opinion that we would be in the top two but football is never that simple...'

It's only sad that people can get so blinkered that they can't see that they are so out of their depth.

Sorry Dennis. I don't feel sad unless I look at the table, the current form or the amazing demise of some very promising players. You will have seen people leave clubs during your career. It's par for the course when things don't happen on the pitch. Three wins out of 20 games clouds over any other work that may have been done.
