'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mitchell confronts protesting supporters - Video

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell confronted protesting Cherries supporters outside the ground following the 2-1 home defeat to Walsall.

Over a hundred supporters gathered outside the Goldsands Stadium reception area following the game and chanted various anti Paul Groves chants and called for Eddie Mitchell to 'show your face'.

The chairman promptly did and came out and attempted to calmly talk to a few supporters, until the exchange became heated with shouting and swearing coming from both Mitchell and some of the fans in attendance.

As Mitchell turned to leave one supporter threw a matchday programme, hitting Mitchell in the back of the head. While associate director Dave Roberts had to be restrained inside the Dean Court reception following an angry exchange with one supporter.

Once again AFCB the laughing stock of English football. Mitchell bring some credibility to this mess and deal with Groves today.

I was surpised by this. The way the Echo reported it, it sounded like Eddie came out and immediately had a scrap with the fans because he didn't want them outside. From this video, I can see that Mitchell was perfectly reasonable. Even coming outside was somthing not very many chairmen would do. He was having a polite disscussion with a couple of fans at the front who were asking questions we all wanted to ask and Mitchell was giving answers. MAYBE IF SOME OF THE MORE PIKEY LIKE FANS COULD HAVE JUST SHUT UP FOR 5 MINUTES AND LET HIM SPEAK, WE COULD HAVE GOT A FEW INTERESTING REMARKS FROM THE CHAIRMAN. And throwing that programme was totally unneccessary - whoever threw that was obviously at the back and couldn't quite understand what was going on. I think a few idiots at the back of the crowd did more to discredit the club during the course of this video that EM did. I really wanted to hear what he had to say, but thanks to some stupid idiots who had seen a crowd whilst walking home and jumped on the band-wagon, nothing was gained at all.

I feel imbarrist to be a fan at the moment. Both supporters & Mitchell hasn't done the club any favours.

Soz a odd selection of supporters & Mitchell's reaction.

Clearly we are in the mire. Shame on the 100 plus fans wasting the chance to well just chat away rather than rant at Eddie!! He is one thing Eddie and that is brave. I respect that don't you? I think even E.M knows he has missed the chance to secure a play off place. We know that he is not from football But I feel sad that he has put his money and belief in players and staff and frankly must be hugely disappointed. We know that the money is wasted and frittered away and we might once again hear "Going down with the Luton Town" I remember the golden 70's losing all the impetus after the Bond era! We have never been so rich in squad numbers than today but sadly the team stinks. What the hell is happening where are the checks> The controls? The paper trail? The audit! We know that Mr Mitchell runs a tight business ship wouldn't you want to give your son a job? BUTt he aint qualified ? (That stuff is a cancer remember Mr F at Man utd and his son the agent? Harry and his boy on a contract at Spurs? Huge pensiosn for very little and of course Mr Bond(RIP) and his son? Well nepotism is screwing the game. HOWEVER the buck stops with them all. It is a disgrace that we have squandered a large loan. A leap of faith by another businessman that has no idea about football. Giving the money to agents and freeloaders. WASTE! Please remember this is their business so we have no voice this is not a democracy. It means that unless the football is good enough, then only then can they ignore us, the fans. When it is as tough as this season then it is they that need to come out, meet and greet, wave a lot, sign a few shirts and believe that this town matters. I love the club and believe that when the going gets tough we should all be a band of brothers. The team is not gel ing it is expensive to have Sid/ Calamity James here on a free signing (Thank you not Harry for that bit of help) We need to stop looking at the club thru rose tinted Bournemouth til I die spectacles ! Get the young players/ lads out early and over to the Fletcher stand and get bonding with the true fans. I am the prawn sandwich brigade guys but I am as passionate about football and Bournemouth today as I was almost 50 years ago! Come on you reds!!

I agree with Groves out etc, though the person that threw the programme is a complete idiot and I hope you read this.

Unbelievable, some of these postings. Eddie has never invested very much in the Club, if anything. He has always maintained that he hasn't the money to do so. Eddie runs a "tight ship" oh! if only that were true, indeed it's his failure to keep his promise to keep expenditure within income that has put us in the present position, it was he and the Board that so overspent that the Club was insolvent - no one else, it was the Board that decided to sell off the Team that Eddie Howe had built for very little money to get the Club out of the hole that they had dug. Costing us not only the loss of the best team we had for years, but the finest Management team too. The position now is probably much worse than last year, expenditure way up, income way down , plus a mountain of debt! 40% of the Club's supporters lost, more leaving and yesterday saw the lowest gate for a League match since the Stadium was rebuilt. and it will get worse! Liquidation is a distinct possibility , unless the whole situation changes, overnight..

Sorry I wanted to say he runs a tight business away from football. If you check out my blogs you will see that I am not on side where E.M. is concerned!

EM's intentions are decent but unfortunately his decisions on management have been weak. I guess he feels a bit like a rabbit in the headlights now.....or maybe he is just wondering what to do with the turkey he has bought to manage his team......no fear, Christmas is on its way, so the turkey situation is predefined. Anyone for stuffing?
RedFlash
...we are being run by a drunken landlord, who is over his head trying to 'run' a football club......
Garbo
Unfortunately, Eddie never learns from his mistakes and has never run a sucessful business, seven down, two with Receivers appointed to part of the business (Glee and Seven) BLE in a loss situation and it would be astonishing if AFCB were solvent, following a huge increases in expenditure, a big drop in revenue as support melts away and a vast increase in debt as a result of the £6m borrowed..
squareoldcodger
All good points but do we really want to go down and visit the lesser clubs again? I feel we have a guy in charge that is prepared to at least try but as you say he aint from football and is just being sold down the river and taken for a ride! The team talk big but can they dig out a victory and improve the club? We need the play offs now to bring some cheer! The season at the moment is a dead duck already stuffed!
