Groves: I know what James brings to the party

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves hopes to agree a deal to bring former England international David James to Dean Court.

The 42 year old 'keeper has been a free agent since the summer after leaving Championship side Bristol City after two seasons.

James had been training with League Two side Exeter over the summer but joined up with the Cherries for training on Thursday.

Cherries management duo Paul Groves and assistant manager Shaun Brooks along with AFC Bournemouth 'advisor' Harry Redknapp have all previously worked with James during their time with Portsmouth.

Groves told BBC Radio Solent...

'...I've worked with him before and knew what he could bring to the party and that was a big ingredient of bringing him in.

'David is his own man and he will not just join a club for the sake of joining them. He wants things to be done properly and things will have to be correct for David otherwise he won't sign.

'It works for both parties, and now it's a case of sitting down and seeing where we can get to.'
