Wakefield: Getting games under my belt

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefield was pleased with his latest appearance for the Cherries first team away to Swindon Town.

AFCB Vital sponsored Wakefield is part way through his first year as a professional with the club after being offered his first professional contract at the end of last season.

Under new manager Paul Groves, Wakefield made his first team debut at the end of last season with a 61st minute substitute appearance at Scunthorpe. The following week he made his first team debut at Dean Court, again coming on in the 61st minute against Preston.

This season he has been mainly part of the new Cherries development squad, but he has still made a further two appearances for the first team making an extra time appearance against Oxford in the League Cup and making a half time appearance against Swindon.

Wakefield understands that there is a lot of competition for places amongst the Cherries midfield, but looks upon every match as a chance to get experience.

Wakefield told afcb.co.uk...

"...A lot of new players came in in the summer and I was really keen to impress and show what I could do, and hopefully I did that.

"There are a lot of good midfielders at the club and it`s a big achievement for me to be part of the squad.

"I just want to keep going, get some games under my belt, establish myself as a rotation player and help the team win as many games as possible."
