Former Cherries boss dies

Former AFC Bournemouth manager John Bond has sadly died at the age of 79.

After a 19 year playing career at West Ham United and Torquay where he made over 400 appearances and lifted the FA Cup in 1964, his managerial career began at Dean Court in 1970.

The club changed its identity from Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic to AFC Bournemouth during his period in charge where he guided the team to promotion from the old Division Four.

The following season the Cherries finished third in Division Three, missing out on promotion to Brighton by just three points.

In November 1973 he left Dean Court to manage Norwich City, but he was unable to steer them clear of relegation from the top flight. The following season Norwich won promotion and made it to the League Cup final.

In 1980 he moved again to manage Manchester City, where he guided them to an FA Cup final before leaving in 1983, he went on to have brief spells with Burnley, Swansea, Birmingham, Shrewsbury and Witton Albion.

Everyone at AFCB Vital would like to pass on our condolences to former AFC Bournemouth manager Kevin Bond following the passing of his father and to the whole Bond family and their friends.
