Mitchell: We will examine Groves role

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has revealed that both manager Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks' roles at the club will be examined following the Cherries 4-0 defeat away to Swindon.

But whilst Mitchell met with Cherries manager Paul Groves and assistant manager Shaun Brooks to discuss how the season has begun on Sunday, he insists that the duo will not be sacked following calls from sections of the travelling support for them to go following a poor start to the season.

The Cherries defeat to Swindon left Groves with a record of just 3 wins from 18 since he replaced former manager Lee Bradbury in March.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"I spent an hour-and-a-half with them and we know things aren`t working the way we wanted. We have got to find a way of changing to make things work. We have got to examine their roles and the way we are approaching everything to find a solution which will make things better for everybody.

"Instantly changing the manager would not automatically mean we would start winning games. We have no intention of sacking anybody. That is not what this club is going to be about while I am here...'

'...Sometimes, it works well to change personnel and, sometimes, it doesn`t make any difference. There is good work being done at this club and I want that to continue. I have brought major investment into this club and want to look after that investment. We have got to find a way to change our approach because it is not working."

Relagate them to a coaching role and put Harry in charge of the tem, at least as a temporary measure. A long term solution could then be found, but don't jump at the first pair of yes men that come along. Listen to Harry!

Harry, is far too shrewd to become heavily involved. He by now will have seen enough to know where the problems lie, whilst he may be prepared to give advice, he will not want to become associated with failure.

If Mitchell is convinced that leaving these two in charge is protecting his investment... Let's just say it's no surprise he's been bankrupt before!

Someone at work just made a good point: When we were given a penalty at the brentford game, a number of players were squabbling over who was going to take it. What the ***** do they do all day in training if they dont even know who the designated penalty taker is?

Im quietly optimistic, as "Nobody is getting sacked" in Mitchel speak roughly translates to "I have already sacked them, story to be released this week". Similary you can take "We are not looking to sell him at this time" to actually mean "We agreed a loan move with a view to a permanent transfer last week. we are just putting the finishing touches on the deal".

I'm reading between the lines here - My interpretation based on past precendent and other managerial sackings at other clubs in the past says 'We haven't sacked Paul and Shaun - yet. They've been given a warning that things need to get results by X Upcoming Game and if they fail to deliver by that point, they will be sacked. We need that much time to get someone else lined up and ready'
