AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the departure of Cherries chief scout Steve Gritt.
Gritt was born in Bournemouth and went on to make 6 appearances for the Cherries between 1975 and 1977 before he joined Charlton where he made over 400 appearances in two spells, the first was 1977-1989 and he then returned 1989.
In 1991 he became joint player-manager alongside Alan Curbishley and remained in that role until 1995.
In 1996 he became manager of Brighton and successfully steered the club out of the relegation zone at the bottom of the Football League.
Since leaving Brighton Gritt has been reserve team manager and caretaker manager at Millwall and has spent six years as academy manager at Charlton.
He was announced as the Cherries new chief scout in July 2011, but following the departure of former manager Lee Bradbury, the Cherries made a number of backroom alterations back in May.
One of those changes saw Gritt's role at the club change so that he would be analysing more games via DVD, rather than travelling, while the club also appointed performance analyst Garvan Stewart in June.
Mitchell told afcb.co.uk...
"We`ve taken a new approach to scouting which involves gathering more information on our targets, rather than relying on the views of one scout...'
'...I phoned Steve up and explained that to him. He was disappointed because he enjoyed it here and grew up in the area, but he told me that he knew that this is what can happen in football and that he would move on.
"We reached an amicable settlement and shook hands. We wish Steve all the best for the future, but we`ve got to do what is best for us and look to bring in the best players available."
