Evans: Tubbs deal was done

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has stated that he had agreed a deal to take Cherries striker Matt Tubbs to the League Two side.

Evans has chased AFC Bournemouth's record signing throughout the summer, but had seen a permanent move and a loan offer rejected by the AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell.

Tubbs had been limited to just 27 minutes of League One football until a substitute appearance against Hartlepool saw him score his first goal of the season.

His performance was enough to see him start the following game against Brentford, with Tubbs again on the scoresheet and Tubbs return to the first team has seen Evans hopes of a deal collapse.

Evans told themillers.co.uk...

"There won`t be any additions before the weekend, but we were very close to signing a striker - the deal was done,"

"He has since scored a couple of goals so that is obviously now not going to happen. We go into the weekend with what we have then we will take a clear look at it after a meeting with the Chairman next week."
