Mitchell: No reason to boo

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell believes the Dean Court faithful should rally together to support the team.

A lacklustre performance looked to be heading towards a goalless draw, until Shaun MacDonald was adjudged to have fouled Evan Horwood inside the box and referee Fred Graham pointed to the spot.

Five minutes before the goal and Cherries manager Paul Groves responded to sections of the Dean Court crowd who had been chanting 'we want Tubbsey on' and introduced the Cherries record signing to the game.

He had only featured for 27 minutes of the new League One campaign up to that point following two late substitute appearances and during his 23 minutes against Hartlepool he had two chances in front of goal, taking one of them.

The first was a header from close range, he did well to make contact with the ball but couldn't get the ball on target. The second was played through to him on the edge of the box by Fogden and one on one with the 'keeper Tubbs took his chance to score his first goal of the season.

Some sections of the Goldsands stadium booed the performance at half time and full time, whilst there were also calls for manager Paul Groves to be sacked. Mitchell believes that the performance didn't warrant the boos and thinks the Cherries fans should improve the atmosphere at Dean Court.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"I thought they (the fans) influenced the game at half-time and there had been no reason to boo. We were a bit cagey and lacked spirit in the first half, but there had been no atmosphere and the crowd had been silent...'

'...We have been to Portsmouth twice this season and there is no comparison with how their supporters react when they concede a goal. They could go 10-0 down and their fans would still bang the drum and sing out their hearts. It is about time our supporters got together and realised just what they have got. It was as flat as a pancake...'

'...The supporters could help so much. I was more disappointed and frustrated than they were but I would never boo our boys. It was heart-breaking."

My answer to Mitchell's comment would be get the team to play a system we and the players understand, play entertaining committed football full of effort and running and win some games otherwise sack the management team and get someone who can provide entertainment for our money

...How many managers does it take to change a club?

Mr. Mitchell, Please may we have a Fans’ Forum. Perhaps we may discuss the situation at the club in a sensible manner, and if the loudmouths can refrain from spoiling it we may make some progress TOGETHER. We are ALL supporters of AFCB, and we ALL want our club to succeed on and off the field and progress rapidly. You are the only person who can call the Forum – will you?

im sorry i know i've said i wouldnt have a go until the end of the season but it is just so frustrating already - EM has had yet ANOTHER dig at the fans (who without us the club would cease to be!!!) and the clueless PG should perhaps stick to making the tea behind the scenes (poor PG tips pun - sorry :/) if good old ed wants the fans to back him the manager and the rest of 'em then please comunicate with us & let us have our say - the farcical tubbs substitution just seems to underline how out of his depth PG really is - afraid of upsetting the fans he threw him on instead of thomas (luckily in the end) - but what if tubbs had missed THAT sitter and then failed to score in stoppage time?... a manager has got to stick with his decisions and not be swayed by us or anyone else, the buck stops with him at the end of the day. I honestly dont see us challenging the top 6 anytime soon with our current set-up (as much as id love to see pitman & robinson back) there isn't a manager in the division who wouldnt want the players we already have at our disposal - PG doesn't know what his strongest 11 is and playing players out of position is going to demoralise them - especially when results have been going the way they have been and supporters get disgruntled. Pugh should be given an ultimatum - commit or go out on loan 'till january then move on, it is no good what-so-ever having players not commited to the cause in or around the first team. And as for EM saying there is no cause to boo?.....who pays exorbitant prices to watch their teams week in week out (IN A RECESSION) - the fans....if we want to voice our opinion we have every right - maybe you should be more concerned about the welfare and happiness of your fans and not your accountant.

Sorry EM. You are in the entertainment game. People will not pay good money if they are not being entertained, simples. If they pay good money and don't get entertained they should be entitled to make their feelings known and/or vote with their feet. If you keep your head in the sand the the club will be heading the same way as Pompey or even worse end up in a league similar to where Aldershot had to start again from. When the players entertain 6,000+ the crowd will return.

Neil Perrett has it spot on in the other OHEC article today. 'Diamonds are not forever, Paul' The best I have seen AFCB play in years was the first half away at Stevenage which was before Groves/Brooks started coaching the players. That says it all. If Max is reading/having someone interpret it, buy out Mitchell and his family and sack Groves/Brooks. We are going nowhere with these guys.

Leave it out Mitchell. We are entitled to our opinion. We pay our money and are allowed an opinion. You get things wrong sometimes you know. Saturday's tactics were wrong too. Cagey? I think they looked scared to do anything that wasn't on the whiteboard before the game. We had quick and talented forwards in Josh and Lewis, making good runs that we were too slow to pick out. The crowd were entitled to boo - it probably helped keep them/us awake. We were so much better in the second half as we got closer to having our strongest 11 on the pitch. We will voice our opinion without getting pi$$ed and invading the pitch. We need bigger attendances to support the massive investments we've made. Criticising those who come to support their AFCB just won't help.

OK Eddie what do you want us to do when we watch that garbage? Lots of fans have decided to stay away: I can't blame them. Some fans have started to boo: I didn't bu I don't blame them either. If we keep playing like that despite the resources we've got available, I'm likely to join one group or the other. I guess that Mr Mitchell would prefer me to stay away.

..at least you don't pay to watch that tripe EM....money doesn't come easy to us honest workers you know, and what we spend it on needs to show some return in terms of value. Not seen much evidence of decent football since you 'sold' Eddie Howe to Burnley!
Garbo
Eddie. If I come to a home game I have a rouind trip of about 160 mils, that costs me about £20 in fuel plus the costs of the tickets for my wife & I and food/drink. In short I don' get much change out of £80. Not much to you but a hell of a lot to me to coe and watch a load of rubbish. I don't mind keep ball, & I uderstand the philosphy. What I don't understand is why you gave the managers job to a man with such a poor record. 3 wins out of 16 played is RUBBISH! ok, he has only lost that number as well but there are far too many drawn games, Drawn matches will get you relegated not promoted. A well as that we have been knocked out of two cups by teams which we should have beaten. Your investors money is being wasted at the moment.
believe!
There obviously is a reason to boo because if there wasn't there wouldn't be any booing.
AFCB_FAN
Oh dear Eddie you just dont understand football or its fans do you? enough said!

Tactically we were inept on Saturday, the first half was one of the dullest and most lifeless performances I've seen at DC in a long time, I understand that. We were however 0-0 with a lot more of the possession and not giving Hartlepool a sniff. I completely understand that fans pay hard-earned money to watch football, but why is it they pay that money? Surely the number one reason is to support your team. If it was solely to watch entertaining football stay in and spend money on a Sky Sports package. Many of us don't agree with the manager/assistant now or when they were appointed, myself included, but I simply cannot understand why our players, are getting booed off at half time. If we were 3-0 down I may understand. Surely support the boys till the end of the game, and vent frustrations at manager and board afterwards?
