Mitchell: We could look at Pitman & Robinson again

AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has confirmed the Cherries had failed transfer deadline day bids for former players Brett Pitman and Anton Robinson.

The Cherries had hoped to agree deals with Championship sides Bristol City and Huddersfield, which would have seen the Dean Court favourites return to the club.

But after holding talks with both clubs, the Cherries ran out of time to complete the deals.

With the Football League emergency loan window now open, AFC Bournemouth could look to resurrect the deals with a view to complete a permanent transfer in January, in similar moves to how Wesley Thomas joined the club last season.

Both Robinson and Pitman would be able to join for a maximum period of 93 days, before they could complete a permanent switch when the transfer window re-opens on New Years Day 2013.

Mitchell believes that the squad re-building is close to completion, but manager Paul Groves may well re-visit his bids for the pair.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"...We are turning the corner and we`re hoping that it is less likely we will need to keep adding to the squad to get our goal. But the whole game is results-driven so we will keep a careful eye on our situation.

"If the need arises to change personnel or add to it, then I am sure Paul and Shaun (Brooks, assistant manager) would let me know and we would go looking. Those would be two places we would look but we couldn`t do any more than that at the moment...'

'...I made enquiries (on deadline day) and spoke to Bristol City and Huddersfield. Both of their demands were far in excess of what we were looking to do business at, so it fell by the wayside."

...how many more players should we be needing....time has come for the management to work with what we have and prove that they can deliver success...not constantly just trying to buy it...anyway not sure Robinson would add anything to our squad, Pitman obviously would but we have quite a few strikers when all are fit?...suggest that AFCB get on with the job in hand and stop speculating about returning ex-players...

We do not need Pitman back we have enough strikers. We need someone who can replace Hughes as Partington is not good enough and with Partington playing Arter has to help defensively which is not what he is good at.

^ Well Partington hasn't been that bad but just need more expiernce like we've done with Arter. Plus we can wait for Davids ;)
