Groves: Benji needs time

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves would like to get Liechtenstein international Goalkeeper Benjamin Büchel out on loan to gain experience.

Büchel joined up with the Cherries during pre-season and impressed during a trial spell with the club, signing a six month short-term contract in August.

Ideally Groves would like to get him playing regularly on loan, but with Darryl Flahavan set to miss the next six months with a shoulder injury, Groves will have to consider if Büchel should remain with the club to act as cover for Shwan Jalal.

Groves told the Daily Echo...

'...Benji needs a little bit of time and, ideally, we will put him out on loan so he can gain experience and acclimatise to the way we play football in this country.

"He needs to develop and find his feet. He is new to this level of football and new to this country, which makes a difference.

"In an ideal world, Benji would go on loan but circumstances might dictate otherwise. If you want a goalkeeper on loan to sit on the bench (with Flahavan injured) all you are going to get is a young lad. Then, you have to ask yourself whether he is any better than Benji, Chad Collins and Ed Tierney...'
