Purches: Heading in the right direction

AFC Bournemouth utility man Stephen Purches has been pleased with his rehabilitation from a broken leg and believes he's heading in the right direction.

During the opening moments of the game against Rochdale on 18th February, Purches suffered a double leg break following an innocuous 50/50 challenge with Rochdale's Jason Kennedy.

Purches broke his tibia and fibula in the challenge and was taken straight to Royal Oldham Hospital.

24 hours later Purches had an operation to insert a metal plate into the leg and thankfully, that surgery went well and he soon returned to Bournemouth to begin his recuperation at home.

After a period of walking without crutches with the aid of an air boot, he then began to walk without the boot but with crutches.

But the day before the rest of the AFC Bournemouth squad returned for pre-season training Purches came off the crutches and is now pushing forward with his own pre-season schedule.

Purches told afcb.co.uk...

"I came off crutches the day before the rest of the lads came back, so I`ve had my own pre-season and have spent it trying to get my leg as strong as I can,"

"Things seem to be heading in the right direction and I know I`ve got a lot of work to do before I can start kicking a ball properly or anything like that, but it`s little steps at the moment and that`s all I can do.

"But I`m putting in the hours and doing all I can to make sure everything is all right."
