Groves: New signings have enhanced the group

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves has been pleased with the acquisitions that he has been able to make over the course of the summer.

The Cherries have signed ten new players since the end of last season and have also added loanee Lee Barnard to the squad from Southampton.

Young Liechtenstein international Goalkeeper Benjamin Büchel, is expected to join the development squad, whilst Groves has boosted his options in the centre of defence with new captain Miles Addison from Derby and former Brighton defender Tommy Elphick.

Left back Jonathan Meades joined following his release from Cardiff City, whilst midfielder Eunan O'Kane joined from Torquay, Richard Hughes came out of retirement and free agent Lorenzo Davids joined the club on transfer deadline day.

Up front and Lewis Grabban joined from Rotherham, Josh McQuoid returned from Millwall and Frank Demouge came in from Dutch side Utrecht.

Groves told afcb.co.uk...

"I think in the majority of the cases the players we have brought in have enhanced the group in terms of character and ability. We need to work with those players now on a regular basis to build an understanding of what is required to go forward,"

"We have recruited players that will improve the team and improve the squad, and that`s what we were looking to do."

Discussing Lorenzo Davids eagerly awaited debut Groves added...

"It will probably be about two or three weeks before he can start to make an impact,"

Another quote from the 'Lee Bradbury book of quotations' Its a shame they can't influence what happens on the pitch, most of them are injured. Paul, you and your 'cast of thousands' need to get a grip, stop issuing meanless statements and SORT IT OUT ON THE PITCH.

A guy at his stage in career has tooo much power. Lets get a proper manager to go with these players & get rid of some fringe players who we don't need anymore as the team is too big than it needs to be. Yeah we have more oney now but still shouldn't waste it.

I quite agree with you Will. I cannot remeber the club ever having such a large payroll, and sign so many players that are signed 'on the treatment table'. Perhaps we should have a scout at the local A&E?

Unfortunately the signings appear random at best and this is shown in our team play and performance. I remember the days of Ian Cox, Matt Holland, Vincent etc etc....where the "team" performance exceeded the sum of the "parts". This was due to good management and player motivation. Now the team is playing well below the sum of the parts and this must be due to poor management. Takes more than money to build a team!

Great intelligent debate here!! Groves is in trouble unless his players step up to the mark and put in a few wins for their gaffer. He deserves their help as he has put up and let the team do the talking!! Oh dear say I no talking on the pitch just pants!! Can anyone recall what the Management said re expectations this season? It is too early still to judge( even all guns blazing I doubt we could have nicked any points from Sheffield and we didnt expect Pompey to get a draw!) Well by Christmas we will know! Good luck guys we are not quite yet enjoying this style of footie. We don't have a team that is firing yet so we wait.........
