Groves: Working on a better understanding

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves will work with his squad during this week to improve the players understanding of each other.

The Cherries have made nine signings this summer, with Tommy Elphick and loanee Lee Barnard not featuring for the team until the season got underway during the League One opener against Portsmouth.

Groves believes not having a game for seven days will give the side the ideal opportunity to work together after a hectic start to the new 2012/13 campaign.

The new season started on 14th August and within two weeks, the Cherries had played four games.

Groves told the afcb.co.uk...

"...There were a number of new faces that came in towards the end of pre-season and it will help us work with them and try and get a better understanding going.

"You can`t do a lot of work when the season gets up and running and you are playing every three or four days.

"A lot of time is focused on maintaining the players, and you can touch one or two areas that need addressing, but in the main it`s about helping the players recover and preparing for the next game...'

Do we have the luxury of too many players? Too much tinkering with line-up, changing each game ? Do players still have afternoons off ? Get them in a classroom and use a board to show who goes where and with whom. Work twice as hard as expected to achieve your goal. Nothing comes to those who sit back and expect things to happen. Exactly how many hours do the players work ( excluding travel time) ?

100% agree with the classroom bit^.

1)Try moving one of them out onto the bit of grass with the line next to it. It's called a wing. 2) Ask them to hit the ball into the middle in the air. 3) Ask the others to rush towards that ball and try and put it in the bit between the three bits of wood. 4) Oh...... and if you want the ball run away from it and call don't run towards it and all meet. Tomorrow lads we can cover how you make the other team feel a bit stressed when they have the ball rather than watch them stroke it around the park.........

I wouldn't fancy using PG's excuses in my line of work. How long do you need to get a bit of understanding from a team of experienced -in the main - professional footballers. Get a grip and stop talking boŁŁocks...

Seems to be a quote from the 'Lee Bradbury book of Quotations'. Yet another clueless manager that are stuck with until EM spots the 'bleeding obvious'!
believe!
swindon went back early for pre-season training, used their friendlies to gel and work on understanding - note the difference

Some killer management speak from the master - with this kind of leadership I'm surprised the players even bother to turn up ( maybe some do physically, but mentally?!)..... If only this excerpt were true ... BlackEddie: "You're fired".......BaldrickGroves: "But I've been in your family since 1532!"......BlackEddie: "So has syphilis, now get out.". ... I guess we can all dream, but not all dreams come true.
