Mitchell on Director of Football role

AFC Bournemouth director Tom Mitchell joined the Cherries board alongside younger brother Josh Mitchell one year ago and has spoken about his role at the club.

Tom Mitchell has often been referred to as the Cherries Director of Football but after 12 months in the role, his position was mainly unclear amongst the Dean Court faithful.

Speaking about the role he plays as the go between for the board and the management team, Mitchell spoke about his role in regards to player recruitment.

Tom Mitchell works alongside Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks during the scouting process of an identified player and will then report back to chairman Eddie Mitchell and co-owner Maxim Demin, they then decide if an approach will be made and then Tom Mitchell handles the negotiations with the player, his agent and his team.

Tom Mitchell told the Daily Echo...

"...My role is to support the management team and backroom staff and take responsibility for football matters off the pitch. I also act as a communicator between the board and the management team.

"I am also involved in player recruitment and will liaise with the manager when it comes to signings. Paul will identify a player and we will then discuss how we go about bringing him in...'

'...Paul, Shaun and myself will then review clips of the player and go to watch him if we can. It will be down to me to discuss transfer fees and personal terms but Paul will give me guidance..."

no wonder we are getting rinsed on the transfer front, Tom this isn't monopoly money you are playing with, bet other clubs see this and rub there hands when they see a boy barely able to grow racial hair approach them about a player, I understand quality comes with a price but 250k here and there isn't doing us any good, why didnt you speak to Harry the wheeler dealer when he opened the training ground for some tips and advice? Ok I admit I do like some of the new players but cringe when I hear the fees thrown about, I do hope I'm not the only one to feel this. Deadline day approaches and I wonder how many more strikers the club will sign. Hopefully the club can pick up some wins, I know people have moaned about the 3 draws but a positive spin is its not 3 loses
