Hard: McQuoid will return to training next week

AFC Bournemouth striker Josh McQuoid has started to jog following a recent scan on his ankle.

McQuoid received good news after visiting the specialist two weeks ago, but has been unable to step up his rehabilitation due to discomfort in his heel.

The Northern Ireland international picked up the foot injury during pre-season against Basingstoke.

It had been feared that the injury was quite severe but after a visit to the foot specialist, it was revealed that he had not sustained a fracture.

He did however suffer bone and soft tissue bruising and McQuoid took a few weeks to walk completely pain free and until this week jogging had remained an issue.

But this week light jogging has been fine and if that continues he could be set to return to full training next week.

AFC Bournemouth physio Steve Hard told afcb.co.uk on Thursday...

'...He was beginning to get frustrated over the weekend because he wasn't able to jog without soreness. I contacted the surgeon to update him on the symptoms and he said it would settle naturally and that there would be no need to inject the area.

'Josh jogged yesterday and today in trainers. He also ran with his boots at the end of today's session. Boots are generally a tighter fit on the foot compared with trainers so it was encouraging that he was able to run in them pain free.

'I will assess him in the morning to make sure he has had no reaction from today's session. If all goes to plan he will commence ball work over the weekend and hopefully return to training towards the end of next week.
