Fletch: Fantastic every time I get on the pitch

AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher was pleased to add another appearance to his all time appearance record with the Cherries on Tuesday.

Fletcher made a controversial appearance at half time against the team from stadium:mk, when Cherries manager Paul Groves opted to take off Harry Arter to bring on Fletch.

The appearance was Fletch's 713th appearance for the Cherries and Fletch will continue to battle with the rest of the side to keep his place amongst the Cherries squad at the age of 40.

Fletch was named alongside Wesley Thomas and Matt Tubbs on the bench on Tuesday, while Lee Barnard was selected up front with support from Marc Pugh and Lewis Grabban.

Strikers Charlie Sheringham, Josh McQuoid and Frank Demouge remain unavailable through injury.

Fletch told BBC Radio Solent...

'With the amount of ball we were putting into the box in the first half he (Groves) obviously thought it was the right time to get me on and try and finish them off,'

'I'll take my opportunity when I get to come on, it's fantastic every time I get on the pitch. It's getting harder, not because I'm getting older but because the players are getting better.

'That's the difficulty, it's not to do with my age, it's because of the standard of players around me. If I get on fantastic, if I don't then I am just happy to be part of the 18.'

It was great to see the big man on. The terrible tragedy is that if we needed him for the reasons described ny our Manager then he should have come on in the first half.Steve Fletcher's Boss and staff consider him still an impact player and you know it almost worked. Taking off the wee man (Arter) though was a mistake and the side appeared to not want to pass to each other at the start of the second half. I guess precious minutes were lost while the team tried to adapt to the new plan? Sadly it didn't come off and for the strange bunch that boo'ed at the end of the match that didn't help though clearly they wanted to demonstrate their frustration!. For what it is worth you did a bloody good job doing precisely what was asked of you. I believe the startegy might yet work sometime this season. We all want to see you playing and help out there. Keep going Fletch. It was also great to see the legend Ian Wright ackowledege the crowd and take photos at the end. You know what? Our team never come out early to meet the supporters and always when their heads are down go off their pitch like losers! We could learn a lot from Mr Ian Wright...........
