AFC Bournemouth have sold former Cherries captain Adam Barrett to League Two side Gillingham for an undisclosed fee.
The veteran defender who wore the Cherries armband last season, has dropped down the pecking order in Paul Groves Cherries squad following the signing of Tommy Elphick from Brighton and was potentially set to be fifth choice behind Steve Cook, Stephane Zubar and Miles Addison.
The 32 year old had one year remaining on his current deal at Dean Court after joining the Cherries from Crystal Palace 12 months ago.
Gillingham manager Martin Allen told gillinghamfootballclub.com...
'...Yesterday evening we agreed with Bournemouth for the signing of Adam Barrett on a one year contract with an option for a second year. Adam has had a tremendous career and has experienced three promotions as a player and captain. He trained with us this morning and will go into our squad for tomorrow`s game...'
'...We have been after both of these players (Barrett and Brentford's Myles Weston) for several weeks now. They both have good experience of getting promotion from this division and with these two we get leadership, goals, experience, speed and excitement.
